Hey, Neighbor. Here's the deal.

My name is Nina Taylor, and I'm running as an Independent candidate for D.C. Council At-Large.

You signed my petition to help place my name on the ballot.

That was your signature. That was your choice. And that was your voice.

Your signature has now been challenged — because the address you wrote on the petition doesn't match the address currently on file with the D.C. Board of Elections.

Maybe you moved. Maybe your voter registration simply needs to catch up with where you live today.

Either way, an address should not be the reason your voice disappears from the process.

This is exactly why I'm running.

Too often, Washingtonians run into systems and processes that make participation harder than it needs to be. When something as simple as an outdated address can stand between a resident and having their voice recognized, we don't walk away.

Your update must be received by the Board of Elections by that date. Submitting online is the fastest and safest way to make it.

First — am I one of the people affected?

Not every signer is. Here's how to check in under a minute:

1. Look up your registration at apps.dcboe.org/vrs.

2. Compare the address the Board has on file to where you actually live right now.

3. If they don't match, you're who we're talking to. Please Update it.

4. If they do match and you still got a notice from us, email us at info@ninataylordc.com— don't change anything. We'll sort it out on our end.

What you'll need

• Your current D.C. residential address (not a P.O. box or business address)

• Your D.C. DMV driver's license or ID number — or the last four digits of your Social Security number

• About five minutes

No D.C. ID and no Social Security number handy? You can still update. Print and mail or email the paper Voter Registration Application from the same Board of Elections page, or bring it in person to 1015 Half Street SE, Suite 750, Washington, DC 20003. Questions we're hearing

Does this change my party registration? No. Updating your address changes your address. Nothing else moves unless you choose to move it.

Is this only about the petition? No — and this is the part worth keeping. An accurate address is how your ballot reaches you, how the Board assigns your ward and ANC, and how you avoid a headache at the vote center. You should do this whether or not you ever heard of my campaign.

What if I moved out of D.C.? Then this one isn't yours to fix, and we understand. Thank you for signing while you were here.

Can I just tell the campaign my new address instead? We wish. Only the Board of Elections can update its own records, and only you can authorize the change. We can't do it for you.

I updated my address after I signed. Am I good? Check the lookup link above to confirm the Board processed it. If it shows your current address, you're done.
